Kurumaya Japanese Kitchen Reviews

This hidden gem had some excellent Japanese food. I had the curry katsu and was not disappointed. Only a few miles south of Mitsua, so if you don't want those crazy lines, try this place out!

This spot is super authentic. Friendly service, it so cute and adorable. BUT sadly not for me. The shrimp tempura was too fishy for me. I did like the salad and the pasta salad. The veggies that were offered, I personally don't like them so I gave them to my friend. They misunderstood her order and gave her the same meal as me, shrimp tempura. Luckily I told her to not eat it, she's a vegetarian, so she gave me all her shrimp and I gave her all my veggies. Anyway it's very cheap! I recommend this spot for the fish lovers, for sure. They don't have mochi as advertised btw. The presentation of the food is quite lovely.

The best place around where you can get high-quality authentic Japanese dishes. You can enjoy so many kind of side dishes for your drinks at dinner time. My recommendation is Chirashi Sushi at lunch time with full of different kind of sashimi for 15-16. It's a real bargain. Their Katsu Curry is also good. At dinner time, you may want to try these for your beer and sake - - Goya Champuru (Bitter Melon with Tofu and Pork) Goya ( Bitter Melon) is really bitter. Don't give it to your kids ! - Dashimaki Tamago (Japanese Omelet with Broth) - Gyoza (Pork Pot Stickers) - Agedashi Tofu (Tofu Tempura in Soy Sauce Broth) You will like them.

I think sushi in general isn't as good in the midwest as it is on the coasts, but this place is something else. The ingredients they use are high quality and the chefs prepare everything top notch. The pressed unagi sushi is worth the 20 bucks, if me and my wife didn't get that to split, we each could have eaten for less than 20 with the lunch combos, which are plenty of food for most people.

You know the place is authentic when there’s a Japanese man behind the counter making the sushi. Had the best Salmon Don in my life here.

Kurumaya is a delicious Japanese restaurant. The food is authentic, the service great, and the atmosphere is lively with many other customers enjoying their meal. I would highly recommend coming to try their tonkatsu and tonkatsu curry.

Most authentic Japanese restaurant in Midwest. I highly recommend this place especially if you’re looking for good price, good vibe Japanese restaurant.

First visit and it won't be the last! We loved it. Started off with delicious warm green tea, we ordered the gyoza and croquet, both delicious. We had the Tonkatsu and Ten Zaru Soba and a warm saki. It was so authentically japanese and we were very happy with the food portion, quality and price. Highly recommend a visit!
